Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management Janice Schneider traveled to New Orleans, La., this week to meet with Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) employees, visit offshore facilities, and speak at the Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Technical Symposium. On Tuesday, Assistant Secretary Schneider visited the Pompano production platform operated by Stone Energy and the Sevan Louisiana drilling rig contracted to LLOG offshore Louisiana. She was joined by BSEE Director Brian Salerno, Gulf of Mexico Region Director Lars Herbst and Deputy Region Supervisor Troy Trosclair.
Earlier today, Assistant Secretary Schneider met with BSEE and BOEM Gulf of Mexico Region employees. She spoke with the employees about their importance to the President’s All of the Above energy strategy. After the all hands meeting, Schneider traveled to the Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Technical Symposium in downtown New Orleans, where she delivered the keynote address. Her remarks focused on the President’s energy strategy, the 5-year oil and gas leasing program, risk reduction, and safety management on the Outer Continental Shelf.
Assistant Secretary Schneider was sworn into her position by Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell on May 16, 2014. In addition to BSEE and BOEM, she oversees the development and implementation of policy for the Bureau of Land Management and the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement.
