ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) Alaska Region staff visited with Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program (ANSEP) students at the University of Alaska Anchorage campus Jan. 22 to highlight BSEE’s continued efforts in the Arctic.
BSEE representatives engaged more than 75 students during their visit, including a presentation discussion with a BSEE inspector who worked on Shell’s offshore drilling units in the Chukchi Sea during its 2015 Arctic drilling operations. In addition, BSEE staff followed the presentation by discussing career opportunities with students and encouraging them to continue their education in the science and engineering fields.
ANSEP is a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program, which specializes in providing advanced science and engineering programs to underserved Alaska Native youth from sixth grade through university undergraduate and graduate programs. ANSEP has been involved in STEM education since 1995 and currently is engaging more than 1,500 students across Alaska.
BSEE is committed to encouraging students in STEM programs and continues to formally engage innovative programs, like ANSEP, to excite and inspire young minds.
