ASCE Pipeline Workshop

This project will assess the state-of-the-art and develop a list of needed research topics on all aspects of pipelines. In addition, this workshop provided a forum for researchers in the water and sewer industry to communicate with researchers in the oil and gas industry.

Pipeline Reliability Assessment

This is a Joint Industry Project (JIP). The purpose of this project is to develop a practical Knowledge Based System (KBS) for reliability assessment of marine pipelines. The KBS will be used to develop plans for the inspection and maintenance of pipelines. The KBS will be designed to interface with pipeline databases being developed by the U.S. Minerals Management Service and pipeline owners and operators.

Programming, Digitizing, and Data Entry of Pipelines for the Gulf of Mexico, OCS and Louisiana State Waters

This was a Cooperative Agreement. The purpose of this project was to digitize/enter pipeline location information in the Federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The data will be used in-house by MMS staff to create AutoCAD/Arcinfo based maps of pipeline system locations through out the entire Gulf of Mexico.

Retrofit Cathodic Protection of Marine Pipelines Associated with Petroleum Production

Development of a model or models that will provide criteria for cathodic protection retrofits for offshore pipelines. The project would be based on recently developed relationships between cathodic protection potential and electric current density for sacrificially protected steel in sea water. The results could serve as a recommended practice of specification.

Summary of State of Louisiana's Oil Spill Regulations and Programs For Platforms and Pipelines Located in State Waters (OPA 90)

This is a Cooperative Agreement. The project developed a description of the Louisiana State laws that apply to all offshore platforms and pipelines. The project also identified all regulatory agencies that have jurisdiction over facilities located in Louisiana; researched the history and objectives of the Louisiana inspection programs for platforms and pipelines; and reviewed the nature of inspections of the Louisiana inspection programs.

DNR-MMS Louisiana Offshore Pipeline and Platform Map

This was a Cooperative Agreement. The objective was to compile and digitize the location of all pipelines and platforms offshore Louisiana and produce a map showing all oil and gas pipelines, 2 inches in diameter or greater, from the Louisiana coastline to the edge of the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS), as well as locations of all oil and gas platforms and caissons in state waters.

International Workshop on Damage to Underwater Pipelines

This is a Joint Industry Project (JIP). The objective is to provide a forum to discuss damage to offshore oil and gas pipelines. The workshop is intended to facilitate the exchange of information between representatives from oil and gas companies, pipeline operators, design engineers, regulatory agencies, and academic institutions on the integrity of offshore pipelines in the aftermath of severe storms, such as Hurricane Andrew.

Hydrates of Hydrocarbons--Practical Implications

Produce a written review of the state of the art in topics as the prevention of hydrate formation and removal of hydrates during drilling, production, transportation, and other processing of hydrocarbons. These topics will become increasingly important to the safety of operations as industry moves into the deeper parts of the Gulf of Mexico, where the colder temperatures cause more hydrate
