BSEE Director Travels to Texas, Speaks at OESI Forum, Tours Deepwater Containment Equipment and Meets with Original Equipment Manufacturers

Bureau of Safety and Environmental (BSEE) Director Brian Salerno completed a two-day trip to the State of Texas where he provided opening remarks at an Ocean Energy Safety Institute (OESI) Forum, toured a deepwater containment equipment design and fabrication yard and met with leadership of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).

On Tuesday, August 12, Director Salerno presented opening remarks at the OESI’s Forum on Eliminating Barriers to Data Sharing and Solutions which took place at the University of Houston and was attended by representatives from government, oil and gas industry, academia and the public. In the afternoon he visited the Trendsetter Engineering facility hosted by the Helix Well Containment Group (HWCG), a member organization that develops and maintains deepwater containment response capabilities. Director Salerno discussed deepwater response capabilities with HWCG representatives and toured various deepwater containment equipment including a capping stack and subsea accumulator module.

On Wednesday, August 13, Director Salerno met with industry leaders representing OEMs. The discussion focused on increased collaboration among all participants in the offshore oil and gas industry with a focus on improved safety and quality assurance. The meeting took place at the new BSEE Technology Center which recently opened in downtown Houston.
