BSEE Discusses Decommissing at Offshore Workshop

This week the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) discussed decommissioning requirements at the Offshore Network’s Deepwater Decommissioning Workshop on February 10th in Houston, Texas. The two day event explored unique challenges faced in Gulf of Mexico deepwater decommissioning projects and featured speakers, exhibits, and workshops. BSEE Petroleum Engineer Casey Kavanaugh, Gulf of Mexico decommissioning coordinator, gave the group an update on current regulations and amendments to the Idle Iron Notice to Lessees. Kavanaugh's presentation can be viewed here.

More information on BSEE’s Idle Iron policy that requires companies to dismantle and responsibly dispose of infrastructure after they plug non-producing wells can be found here.
