BSEE Publishes Investigation Report of Deepwater Asgard Incident; Issues New Guidance to Operators for Added Safety
(HOUMA, La.) – The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement today released the results of its investigation of the Oct. 28, 2020 incident when the Transocean Drillship Deepwater Asgard sustained major damage to various operational components while evacuating from an area impacted by Hurricane Zeta.

BSEE Inspectors: Everyday Heroes Promoting Safe and Environmentally-Responsible Offshore Energy Program
Heroes are courageous. They achieve great things, they combat adversity and, often, they receive little recognition. Many heroes humbly see their actions as merely “doing their jobs.” Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement inspectors fit this noble description. Inspectors travel daily offshore to inspect operations and equipment on oil and gas platforms, rigs, drillships and other facilities to ensure that energy exploration, development, and production are conducted safely and in an environmentally-responsible manner.
Offshore Oil Fuels America’s Economy
NEW ORLEANS -- Energy companies working in the Gulf of Mexico produce about 1.7 million barrels of crude oil per day. It is transported to refineries along the Gulf Coast where it becomes a variety of fuels, petroleum products and petrochemicals that boost America’s economy. Gulf oil also contributes to the roughly $2.8 billion added to the U.S. Treasury every year from Outer Continental Shelf oil and gas production.
BSEE Hosts Joint Industry Task Force
STERLING, Va. - The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) and representatives from the American Petroleum Institute’s (API) Oil Spill Preparedness and Response Joint Industry Task Force discussed advances in oil spill research during a workshop at the BSEE office in Sterling, Va. held last month. The workshop provided an opportunity for key industry leaders and BSEE’s Oil Spill Preparedness Division to examine progress related to oil spill preparedness and response.
