Special Salary Rates

2024 GS Locality Pay Tables

Special salary rate tables for certain scientific positions are listed below.  To set the pay of these positions, a comparison is made between the locality pay table of the duty station and the special salary rate table for the position.  The highest salary for the grade and step will be used to set the pay. Limited to positions performing work directly involved in the oversight of oil and gas production.

  • Civil Engineers, Petroleum Engineers, Geophysicists, Geologists and positions in General Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement and Compliance in grades GS-5 through GS-15 are included on the 2024 Special Rate Pay Table 0711 in Jefferson, LA.
  • Petroleum Engineers and positions in General Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement and Compliance in grades GS-5 through GS-15 are included on the 2024 Special Rate Pay Table 0712 in Lake Charles, LA, Lafayette, LA, Houma, LA and Angleton, TX.
  • General Engineers, Civil Engineers, Petroleum Engineers, Geophysicists, Geologists and positions in General Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement and Compliance in grades GS-5 through GS-15 are included on the 2024 Special Rate Pay Table 0716 in Houston, TX.
  • Civil Engineers, Petroleum Engineers, Geophysicists, Geologists and positions in General Inspection, Investigation, Enforcement and Compliance in grades GS-5 through GS-15 are included on the 2024 Special Rate Pay Table 0721 in Anchorage, AK

Students & Recent Graduates

The Pathways Program offers clear paths to paid internships for students and careers for recent graduates in order to provide training and career development for individuals starting their federal careers. There are three programs: Internship Program, Recent Graduates Program, and the Presidential Management Fellows Program.

Agencies are responsible for posting their Pathways job opportunity announcements. Please note that Recent Graduates job opportunities may not be immediately available, as agencies are in the process of establishing their Pathways Programs.

Developmental Internship Program

The Pathways Program allows students to be exposed to the work of the government through federal internships while pursuing their degree. Positions are open to current students enrolled at least half-time in high school/GED, vocational, technical, undergraduate, graduate or professional programs.

The BSEE Developmental Internship Program (DIP) is an exciting opportunity for interns to enter the workforce with a group of likeminded individuals planning for their future. In addition to working full-time with your respective office, this internship program consists of two training weeks per Summer designed to provide interns with the building blocks necessary for transitioning from a student to a successful Civil Servant. DIP is a two summer-long program and is recruited for every two years, with the potential for you to continue as an intern and/or employee with the Bureau once completed.

Engineering Internship

Every year BSEE attends recruiting opportunities nationwide and promote engineering internships. The program allows engineering students to become familiar with the mission and functions of BSEE offshore program. Petroleum, chemical, civil/structural, mechanical, and environmental engineering students may apply.

Recent Graduates Program

The Recent Graduates Program provides developmental opportunities for recent graduates. Recent graduates program positions are open to individuals who completed a qualifying educational program within the preceding 2 years.

Presidential Management Fellow Program

The Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) program is a flagship leadership development program at the entry level and is run by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). For eligibility information and application instructions, please visit http://www.pmf.gov. OPM announces opportunities annually through a PMF database. PMF opportunities are currently available only to the PMF Finalists of the most recent class. Any bureau or agency can select a PMF by working with their servicing human resources office and PMF coordinator.
