Janine Tobias

Chief, Safety Enforcement Division

Janine Tobias is the Chief of the Safety Enforcement Division (SED). She began her federal career as a Presidential Management Fellow with BSEE’s predecessor, the Minerals Management Service in 2000. Tobias has held several positions with the agency prior to her current appointment including Project Coordinator, Conflict Manager, and Senior Advisor.

As SED Chief, Tobias is responsible for managing her staff in the development and maintenance of the agency’s national compliance and enforcement policy as well as organizing enforcement strategy for the agency. Tobias works on various multi-functional teams to include inspections, civil penalties, Safety Environmental Management Systems (SEMS) and Safety Management (SM). Tobias also collaborates with bureau and departmental stakeholders in order to enforce safety on the OCS.

Tobias is a licensed attorney in the State of New Jersey and holds multiple degrees from Rutgers University including Bachelor’s degrees in both international environmental studies and political science. Tobias also holds a Master of Public Administration degree as well as a Juris Doctorate.
