Yesterday, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) Gulf of Mexico Region Director Lars Herbst traveled to Houston to address a meeting of the International Oil and Gas Producers (OGP). At the meeting, Herbst spoke about activities in the Gulf of Mexico where he highlighted recent shallow water source control issues and discussed offshore safety priorities including BSEE's Safety and Environmental Management System requirements. Herbst also touched on data analysis as it relates to incidents and the development of the near-miss reporting system with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The OGP represents most of the world's private and state-owned oil & gas companies, industry associations and upstream service companies. OGP members produce more than half the world's oil and about one third of its gas.
Next week, Herbst will return to Houston with BSEE Director Brian Salerno and other BSEE leaders for the 2014 Offshore Technology Conference. More information can be found here.
