Ocean Energy Safety Advisory Committee to Hold Public Meeting

WASHINGTON- Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) Director James A. Watson today announced that the Ocean Energy Safety Advisory Committee (OESC) will hold its fifth public meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, from 8:00 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The meeting is open to the public and will be held at the Anchorage Marriott Downtown Hotel at 870 West Seventh Ave., Anchorage, Alaska 99501. Approximately 100 visitors can be accommodated on a first-come-first-served basis. Time will also be made available August 30 for public comments. Comments may also be submitted in writing to the OESC during the meeting or by email.

The agenda for this meeting will include the subcommittees’ activities to date on oil spill prevention, spill containment, spill response and safety management systems. Interim recommendations will also be presented to the OESC from its four subcommittees for consideration.

The OESC is a federal advisory committee comprised of representatives from industry, federal government agencies, non-governmental organizations and the academic community. It is chaired by former Sandia National Laboratory Director Dr. Thomas O. Hunter and provides critical policy advice to the Secretary of the Interior through the BSEE Director on improving all aspects of offshore energy safety.
