Stresses the importance of Safety Awareness Offshore

BSEE Director Jim Watson participated in the International Safety Equipment Association's (ISEA) Fall Meeting in Arlington, Va. on Thursday, November 29, 2012. Charlie Williams, Executive Director of the Center for Offshore Safety, and Ralph Tijerina, Vice President of Safety and Environment for Ranger Resources, joined Director Watson for a panel discussion on energy industry worker protection initiatives. Director Watson's presentation focused on increased safety awareness offshore and how BSEE is working with operators to realize a shared goal of enhancing both the safety of operations and the environmental stewardship of offshore oil and gas activities. Director Watson discussed BSEE's enhanced safety measures for offshore operations, the incorporation of performance-based standards within a hybrid regulatory model and Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS) tools. Also participating in the meeting were Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA David Michaels and ABC News' Senior Political Correspondent, Jonathan Karl.
