On Tuesday, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement Gulf of Mexico Region Director Lars Herbst addressed the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Delta Section during their March Luncheon in New Orleans. In his address, Herbst reviewed permit activity data and highlighted recent safety incidents. After his address, the group of approximately 30 attendees discussed with Herbst the deepwater Gulf of Mexico as an area of continued interest. His complete presentation is available here.
As Region Director, Herbst directs BSEE's regulatory program involving all oil and gas operations in the Gulf of Mexico with more than 150 operators, approximately 2,600 offshore oil and natural gas facilities that account for nearly 27 percent of the nation's domestic oil production and about 7 percent of domestic natural gas production.
