Representatives from BSEE's Gulf of Mexico Region traveled to the Netherlands to meet with global offshore regulators and exchange ideas on areas of mutual concern. Gulf of Mexico Region Director Lars Herbst and Petroleum Engineer Fred Brink met with the Netherlands' State Supervision of Mines (SSM) January 29th and 30th in The Hague. SSM is the Dutch offshore oil and gas regulator and has a mission that is similar to BSEE's with a focus on safety and environmental responsibility. Delegates from Denmark, Norway, UK and Ireland were also on hand for the workshop.

Herbst and Brink both shared their expertise on well control issues in shallow water and took part in discussions on emergency response and source control as it relates to blowouts in shallow water. The 2-day visit also focused on industry performance measures, decommissioning liability, risks in production and well operations. Attendance at this workshop is part of BSEE's continued commitment as an international offshore regulatory expert to share lessons learned and continuously raise the standards for the global offshore energy industry.
