June 20, 2013- As BSEE recognizes safety month, two teams of BSEE inspectors and engineers are sweeping Shell's Olympus platform in a safety inspection that may clear the platform for transport into Gulf of Mexico deepwater next month and production by next year.
Right now, the teams, led by BSEE Houma District Manager and Production Engineer Bryan Domangue, are making sure that all safety equipment, production processes, and implementation of production processes aboard the 120,000 ton structure are in place and in accordance with Federal regulations.
Following three days of on-site inspection, engineers and inspectors met with Olympus platform personnel to review their findings. The platform is currently being completed at the Kiewit Offshore Services yard in Ingleside, TX. Once deployed Olympus will be one of the largest tension leg platforms (TLP) in the Gulf of Mexico and will be located inside the Mississippi Canyon alongside the existing Mars platform. BSEE's inspection is expected to wrap up by the end of the week.
