Acting Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Land and Minerals Management Marcilynn A. Burke visited BSEE's Pacific Region headquarters in Camarillo, Calif. earlier this week to meet with BSEE personnel and discuss current operations.
Acting Assistant Secretary Burke received briefings from BSEE senior managers, toured the headquarters building and held an All-Hands for employees where she complimented the Region's efforts to promote safety, protect the environment, and conserve resources through vigorous regulatory oversight and enforcement efforts offshore California. She also met with employees individually and answered questions on issues ranging from the budget to her thoughts on BSEE's current and future role within the Department of the Interior.
BSEE's Pacific Region is home to 43 producing leases, 23 platforms and over 200 miles of pipelines offshore California that are monitored by BSEE personnel. The region produces, on average, about 45,000 barrels of oil and 39 million cubic feet of gas per day. In 2011, the U.S. Department of the Interior collected nearly $300 Million in royalties from energy production offshore California. The BSEE Pacific Region closely monitors offshore waters and production facilities for compliance with federal regulations. The Region is home to 52 employees and is led by Regional Director Jaron Ming.
