Background on the Workshop

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) Standards Development office hosted the 2014 BSEE Domestic and International Standards Workshop at the Double Tree Hotel in New Orleans on January 28-29, 2014.

The BSEE Standards Development program collaborates with national and international Standards Development Organizations (SDOs) to develop and revise existing standards for safety and environmental protection on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). This collaboration enables BSEE to minimize the time needed to identify and incorporate new and updated industry standards into its regulatory program.

The 2014 Workshop was the second BSEE Standards Workshop. Goals for the workshop were to build upon, and delve deeper into, the goals of the first BSEE Domestic and International Workshop, including:

  • continue discussions of BSEE’s role in national and international standards development;
  • explore opportunities to increase efficiencies in the development of offshore safety and environmental standards;
  • and further develop knowledge of regulatory and technical standards development issues.
