The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) is undertaking a project to develop a standardized test protocol for Type I Sorbents at the field scale, aimed at enhancing oil spill response capabilities that utilize such recovery techniques. This initiative seeks to create a reliable and repeatable testing method that can be universally applied across various facilities, including BSEE’s own Ohmsett facility. The project involves a comprehensive evaluation of existing non-standardized procedures and historical test data, leading to the development of a refined protocol tailored for field testing applications with various oil types. A working group of oil spill response experts will be convened to guide the protocol's development, ensuring consensus and alignment with industry standards. The final protocol will be submitted to ASTM International for consideration as an official standard, thereby contributing to improved environmental protection and response strategies in oil spill scenarios. This work will be performed under a contract with S.L. Ross Environmental Research Limited, valued at $149,700.
